What We Do

About Guayabo Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

Guayabo Animal Rescue & Sanctuary saves and rehabilitates animals in need, supports local communities through spay/neuter and pet food programs, and inspires compassion through education and eco-tourism—all while protecting 300 acres of natural habitat in Costa Rica.

Our vision is that in Costa Rica, every animal is valued, protected, and given the chance to thrive. We envision a future where communities are empowered to care for animals responsibly, where spay and neuter programs humanely reduce overpopulation, ecosystems are preserved, and compassionate action creates lasting change for generations to come.

Spay and Neuter Services

Guayabo Animal Rescue prioritizes spay and neuter initiatives to help reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats in our region, where many animals are left to survive on the streets, often facing neglect and starvation.

These procedures can be costly, and for many families in rural communities—and beyond—access to this essential care is simply out of reach, even though it plays a critical role in preventing suffering.

Our medical team provides spay and neuter services for a minimal suggested donation, or at no cost for families who qualify. To ensure accessibility for all, we host large-scale clinics each month, making these vital services available to as many people and their pets as possible. Our team also collaborates with other rescues, providing support to ensure dogs and cats are sterilized prior to adoption whenever needed.

To register your pet—or if you are a rescue organization interested in participating in a clinic—please send a WhatsApp message to (Costa Rica). +506 2673 0880 or email mailyn@guayaboanimalrescue.org.

If you would like to sponsor our spay and neuter program, please contact our Executive Director at Nicole@garcr.org or via WhatsApp at (U.S.) +1 904 234 3223.
