As we reflect on 2023 and the first few months of 2024 there is so much to be thankful for….all because you care and believe all lives matter. Adoptions have been picking up, more guests have been staying in our lovely villas, educational programs are in full swing, pet food bank is helping to save lives, as well as the number of spay and neuter surgeries we are performing continue to increase. This brings me to the main topic of this blog…spaying and neutering in rural Costa Rica. When we first started this type of campaign we were told it will never work? People will never get their pets spay or neutered (in Costa Rica it’s called sterilized). No one will get the ‘why’ behind it. We disagreed and brought this campaign to the area, the first ever service of this type available and guess what….it has taken off and we now even have a wait list. A wait list! We need to add surgery times and maybe even veterinarians. And only one year ago we were told this would NOT work. Spay/neuter programs are the ONLY way to solve the over population of dogs and cats. We know this…and now they do too. No one wants to continue to see animals suffering, NO ONE! It doesn’t matter what country or what a populations beliefs are…if they know help can be provided, good hearted people will take advantage and ACT! To date we have almost performed 500 surgeries, which for a rural community will definitely help stop the overpopulation crisis in a short amount of time. We are thrilled that this life saving program has taken off and our goal is 1,000 by end of the year! We need your support to continue this life saving program, so if you can help with any amount – it matters so much. For only $25 per surgery, at our cost, a dog or cat can be sterilized. Together we can STOP the senseless death of all dogs and cats this area and beyond. It’s that important! Let’s do this!
